A 26-year-old woman died Tuesday while in custody at a jail in The Dalles.

At the time of Jennifer McLaren’s death, she was housed in her own cell, under observation and being treated for injuries she suffered before being booked into the Northern Oregon Regional Corrections Center, according to the jail.

No foul play is suspected, officials said. They didn’t disclose what injuries she had suffered or if they contributed to her death.

Emergency medical personnel responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. to the facility’s medical clinic and tried to save McLaren, who was suffering an apparent medical crisis, according to Norcor.

McLaren, an Odell resident, had been in Norcor custody since Jan. 24.

She was in jail on a probation violation stemming from a 2018 heroin possession conviction in Wasco County.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
