Home At Last adds Clear the Cans events this weekend

Asks community to volunteer for Clear the Cans to kickstart$250,000 fundraiser

The Dalles, OR — February 21, 2022 Home at Last Humane Society announced today that the Clear the Cans event has been extended because of the tremendous community outpouring of support!

Home at Last originally planned to hold the event for one day only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, but has now added a second day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 27 as well as new volunteer shifts from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through the end of April. Volunteers can go to www.homeatlasths.org and click on the big green button to sign up to volunteer.

The Clear the Cans events are the kick-off to an expansion of Home at Last’s bottles and cans redemption drive to raise $250,000 for the shelter in 2022.

Donors have contributed many bags that must be processed and cleared to make way for the continued expansion of the program. The funding from bottles and cans is absolutely critical–the organization could not maintain the same quality of community support without the dimes of funding from each of the 2.5 million in cans it hopes to process this year.

Funds will be used used for animal control, shelter facility improvements, maintaining a highly trained staff, subsidizing a successful spay/neuter program, veterinarian procedures and it’s popular rescue and adoption operations.

Volunteers at the Clear the Cans events are encouraged to bring their ‘can-do’ attitude, gloves, and a love for animals. Lunch and snacks are provided on Feb. 26 and 27. Families and businesses can also help with the expansion by collecting cans at home in regular trash bags and dropping them at Home at Last, or by participating in the Blue Bags Give Program.

Our special blue bags have a special QR Code on the side indicating that bottle and can redemption funds should go to Home at Last. The bags can be dropped at any full-service Bottle Drop site

Visit the Oregon Bottle Drop website to find locations near you. Pick up your blue bags for Home at Last at the shelter or any full-service bottle drop site.

If you already have an online personal Green Bag account, you can transfer your funds to Central Oregon Animal Friends online.
