This Friday, April 29th, Debbie will lead the hike up Tom McCall.
This is a moderate 5 mile hike with approximately 1,300′ of gain. Like the last several weeks, we should see a lot of wildflowers. We might also hike out to Rowena Point which will add 2 miles with very little elevation change. This is also tick and rattlesnake country, but encounters with snakes are very rare. Be prepared for any kind of weather and bring a lunch. Sun screen, sun hats, sun glasses, and plenty of water are recommended. The suggested carpool donation is $16.00.
We will meet at and leave from Lewis and Clarks State Park at 8:30. We will travel east on Hwy 84 to the Memaloose rest area for a bathroom stop. From there we will continue east on Hwy 84 a few miles to the Rowena exit, which is the next exit and number 76. From there we will travel a short distance (just before going back onto hwy 84) and make a right turn up to Historic Columbia Highway 30 where you will turn right taking you back west. In just a few winding miles it will take you to the Rowena Overlook, where we will park and start the hike. For those who want to meet the group at the trailhead, we should be there around 9:30.
